Three in a Row!

Today is my third straight day of running! Not much of an accomplishment- I know- but I have been so off lately, and run so little, that I will take my victories as I see them.

Day 1: 5 miles
Day 2: 4.75 miles
Day 3: 3.25 miles

Fewer miles each day? Well, I have to start somewhere...

Two-Weekly Summary

I've maintained my cross training, but failed to up my running (or blogging, for that matter). I did ride my bike to work, home, and to spin on the 19th, and did an eight miles run that Sunday. This week, I was out of town for two days, had our annual fundraising dinner, and only ran twice as a result.

Next weekend, I will be shamed by my lack of training at the Kaiser Permanente Women's Fitness Festival 5k. I'll try to do better than 24 minutes, and hope to not get too winded. The plan is to run again tomorrow and Tuesday. We'll see how well I do this week.

Bike to Work Day

Today is Bike to Work Day in Sacramento (perhaps other places as well)! I'm happy to report that I rode my bike to work for a 7:30 AM meeting- I got to work at 7 so I'd have time to compose myself before the meeting. There sure was less traffic at 6:30 than there was at 7:30 the last time I rode my bike to work.

At lunch I'm going to the Bikefest at the Capitol! I hear there is free ice cream for those who show printouts from Mayisbikemonth.com showing miles logged in May!

Hopefully I can still go to spin tonight!

Weekly Summary

Okay, so last week didn't go that well. I did a great job of doing cross training, but not such a great job running. My knee was still bothering me from the Sunday before. I think I need to try shorter runs more often to get back into it.

Monday: 1 hour of cross training total body workout (with abs)
Tuesday: 30 minutes on the elliptical
Wednesday: Happy Hour
Thursday: weights and abs in the morning
Friday: Off
Saturday: 1 hour of cross training total body workout (with abs)
Sunday: Run 2, on the treadmill, with some walking uphill mixed in; 10 minutes on elliptical

Miles in 2011: 314

Ouch

I went to do my first speed workout in a while on the treadmill last night, and my left knee hurt! My knee hurt a lot- actually both did- after my ten miler on Sunday. I chalked it up to running long after not running in two weeks. But two days later, my left knee still hurt badly enough that I didn't think I should run. So I used the elliptical, and that felt fine. Hopefully my knee feels better by Friday.

I am pretty happy with my new workout schedule so far. I did a strength-toning workout from a magazine on Monday morning and a companion workout in the evening, and my whole body was sore yesterday! The nice thing is, it still felt like I had the day off because I did the workout at home. Nice!

Weekly Summary

Still taking it easy due to my twisted ankle, I didn't run until Sunday last week. I did, however, do weights at the gym 3 times, go to spin, and ride my bike to work Friday. So not a bad week.

May is Bike Month!!!

Since I twisted my ankle the Tuesday before last, I haven't run. I've lifted weights a few times, but I've generally been sans cardio for the past week, until yesterday. I decided that my ankle felt better, so I dusted off my bike (literally) and rode to the gym to take spin.

Aside from the 90 plus degree heat, it was great! I rode to work this morning around 7:20, and got to work at 7:50- not bad for 6 miles with stop lights! I've pledged 50 miles for May is Bike Month, and I don't think I'll have any trouble making that since I'm up to 17 already.

perhaps I should set my goal higher?

Weekly Summary

Epic failure last week. I  set out to run four or five on Tuesday with Julia. Her knee hurt, so we were just going to do 3. Then it hurt bad, so we walked to two after getting to about 1.5. I twisted my ankle at about one mile on a tree root. By Tuesday night, it was excruciating. I didn't go to the gym at all again until Saturday, when I did weights. No half marathon on Saturday, no long run, nothing. Oh well. I'm giving it another week of light activity. I don't want to risk a bad sprain.
